Open and Closed Loop EffectMagnetic samples can be measured in one of two ways as illustrated below In a closed magnetic circuit, the magnetic flux of the sample being measured , is conducted through a ferrous path, often supplied by an elector magnet, that can also apply the magnetic field used in the measurement. It is important for the sample to fit very closely to the magnetic circuit. It is a contact method of measurement. In an open magnetic circuit the sample is magnetically in free air. This is a non contact method of measurement. As this measurement is dependent upon the shape of the sample, it is neccesary to convert an Open Magnetic Circuit measurement to a Closed Magnetic Circuit measurement. .
