MEASUREMENT COILS

Helmholtz coils can also be used as measurement or pickup coils, when combined with an integrating fluxmeter.

The properties of Helmholtz coils give an area between the two coils that has very high homogeneity (uniformity) of pickup i.e. the field in the region is known exactly, thus when any magnetised sample is placed between the two coils it's field strength can be measured very accurately (because we have influenced the magnetic environment).

Within this environment repeated accuracy of magnet measurement is maintained. This principle is used in Magnet moment measurement.
