Hall ProbesThe design of the Hall probe is critical to the satisfactory operation of any Gaussmeter. For the GM04, GM05 and VGM01 we have used our extensive industrial experience to produce a standard Transverse Hall Probe which is semi-flexible and only 1mm thick by 4mm wide. This enables operators to take measurements in tight spaces and narrow air gaps. In addition, the sensitive Hall Element is clearly visible so that the user knows exactly where the measurement is being made. Hirst’s Gaussmeters feature interchangeable probes. Each probe stores its own calibration information in the probe plug. When the probe is connected to the Gaussmeter, the Gaussmeter reads in the probes calibration information and uses this to compensate for any non-linearity in the probe. This ensures the meters calibration is not probe dependent. An Axial Probe is also available as an optional extra. This is only 5mm in diameter and contains all the features of Transverse Probes. Both probe types incorporate a push button for hold and store functions of the measurements within the Gaussmeter. Alternative Axial and Transverse Hall probes offering different thicknesses length etc. are available as standard and a custom made probe service is also available.
